What is it about
Biological transformation is the transfer of principles of natural systems to technical materials, structures and processes. The aim is to achieve sustainable value creation.
Essential concepts of biological transformation are inspiration (learning from the observation of nature for the adaptation of technology), integration (symbiosis of technical systems based on biological models) and interaction (interweaving of nature with technology).
Aims of the research project
In the BioFusion 4.0 project, solutions for the sustainable biological transformation of production are to be developed and demonstrated using industrial use cases of discrete products. From this, concrete implementation aids are to be derived that can be transferred to other technology areas, industries and regions.
Motivation
The sustainable transformation of industrial production is intended to make a significant contribution to the production research of tomorrow, in which the aspects of climate neutrality, resource and CO2 reduction, ecological footprint, productivity and flexibility must be reconciled.
In the process, companies are supported in developing business models and services for new value creation networks in order to be able to use the potentials of the biological transformation.
In addition, companies are enabled to develop biologically transformed products and processes with regard to sustainable product design and the longevity of products.
Further information can be found on the project website dof the consortium leader Fraunhofer IPK. Regular updates and invitations to events are also available via the project’s LinkedIn account.
