About the project

What it is about

As part of the project, an in-service training programme for experts in additive manufacturing with a focus on design, processes and materials will be developed and implemented and carried out in a first pilot project.

The programme is designed as a hybrid format and closely integrates theory and practice. The continuing education programme is divided into different modules.

The unique selling point is an innovative, interactive VR and AR learning system with a virtual learning campus, so that learners can experience and acquire the theoretical knowledge in the various modules of the continuing education programme regardless of location and time.

In addition, combined practical modules are offered that include both the independent generation of 3D models for additive manufacturing and the production of components on selected machines at the practical partners.

Aims of the research project

The aim of the further education is to build up competence as an expert in additive manufacturing for various professional groups that are part of the value chain of urban production.

The in-service training is intended to provide a quick introduction to the topic of additive manufacturing at a practical, basic level.

Motivation

Additive manufacturing is already playing an important role in manufacturing companies in industry and the skilled trades, and will continue to do so in the future.  It offers advantages that contribute to successful economic and resource-efficient production. In order to bring the potential of additive manufacturing into the companies, it is necessary to build up the competence of the employees along the value chain.

Further training in additive manufacturing is sometimes reserved for only a few groups of people due to access requirements; in the case of the Berlin-Brandenburg region, it is very rare or not practice-oriented, so that the transfer effort into entrepreneurial implementation is very high. This is where we would like to start with our project and develop a practical and low-threshold continuing education programme that promotes the need-based development of competences for various occupational groups for which additive manufacturing is relevant.
